Homewend keeps as little as it can. This page says exactly what, why, and for how long.
Who we are
Homewend is an independent project. For anything about your data, write to [email protected].
The waitlist
When you join the waitlist we store:
- your email address;
- the date you joined;
- the label of the link that brought you, if it had one (for example
?src=reddit), so we know which posts people come from.
We use your email for one thing: to tell you when Homewend is ready, and, rarely, to ask you something about it. We never sell it, share it, or use it for advertising.
The legal basis is your consent (GDPR art. 6.1.a). Every email we send has a link to leave the list in one click. You can also write to us and we delete you by hand.
We keep your address until you leave the list, or until the waitlist ends when Homewend launches, whichever comes first.
Visits
The site sets no cookies and runs no trackers or third-party analytics. Fonts and images are served from our own server.
Like every web server, ours writes a log of requests: the page, the time, your IP address and your browser’s name. We use it to keep the site secure and to count visits per page; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in running the site (GDPR art. 6.1.f). The log is deleted after at most 30 days; what we keep is the totals, never anything about a single person.
If you switch the site between light and dark, that choice is saved in your own browser, not sent to us.
The Homewend app
The app runs on your computer and sends nothing to us: no account, no telemetry, no analytics. Your photos go from Google straight to the folder you choose.
Signing in to Google. The app opens Google’s own sign-in page in your browser (Chrome, Chromium, Brave or Edge), on a browser profile it keeps on your computer. Your password goes to Google only; we never see it.
Google asks you to let Homewend see your email address. That is only how the sign-in window knows you have finished: the app never exchanges Google’s reply for a token, so it receives neither your email address nor any other data from Google’s APIs.
Which account you are signed in to. Once you are signed in, the app reads your email address from the Google Takeout page it opens for you, so that it can tell you which account your photos come from. It keeps the address in the signed-in profile, on your computer, and sends it to nobody.
The signed-in profile stays on your computer, in the app’s settings folder. Delete it and you are signed out.
Homewend’s use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
New versions. At most once a day, when you run a command, the app asks GitHub, where its releases are published, whether a newer version is out, and tells you in one line. homewend update then downloads it from GitHub. GitHub sees your IP address, as any site you visit does; the app sends it nothing else, and nothing about you or your photos.
Where your data is
- Our server is in Amsterdam, in the EU (provider: Sollutium EU).
- Cloudflare sits in front of the site to protect it and deliver it quickly; it sees your IP address as part of doing that.
- When we write to the waitlist we will use an email provider (Resend), which receives your address to deliver the message.
Cloudflare and Resend are US companies: when your data reaches them outside the EU, it is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses in their data processing agreements.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or to withdraw your consent, at any time: write to [email protected]. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to your data protection authority.
We will update this page if anything here changes, and change the date at the top.
